2002 Counting Coup Finishing Times And After Event Thanks
Friends, Thank you all for your support of the 2002 Mountain Bike Pow Wow.
It is our hope that you were
reconnected to the land in which we feel privileged to ride upon. It is our goal
to open your eyes to that which cannot be seen but only felt; the love of the
Great Spirit of which the beauty of the forest testifies. It is also important
that you realize how precious your freedom is and volunteer your time
maintaining the forest to protect that freedom. If the Warrior’s Society
accomplished this and inspired you to get involved then the Forest will be in
good hands. The Warrior’s Society would like to thank the following individuals and organizations that helped to make the Pow Wow possible: The U.S. Forest Service and Rangers Karla Gallegos and Lee “OK’s Event” Di Gregorio. The Orange County Search and Rescue Team, who gave us the peace of mind knowing the riders would be taken care of if they got into trouble Warrior’s Society member Ron “Leads Many Warrior’s” Cooke for being our Communications Director and teaching us how to do an event right. Geriann Vargas and Becky Vargas for being camp bosses and making sure you’re taken care of once you got back. Fellow Club members, who worked from Thursday through Saturday non-stop getting ready for the event and acted as support. Our many support volunteers who manned the aid stations, cooked, registered participants, drove trucks, or helped back at camp. Jim Simescu, who has been our lead cook and with the help of Keith Eckstein, has prepared the in the days before the event. Our Major sponsors: Arrowhead Water and John Mangini, Shimano and Christain DeStefano, Oakley and Scott Bowers, Manitou and Tom Rogers, Psycle Werks Bicycles and Chuck Densford. Our sponsoring bike shops: Jax’s Bicycle Centers, Rainbow Bicycle Company, Edge Cyclesports, The Bike Company, Switchback Cyclery, The Path Bike Shop, Bike Tech and South County Cyclery. Our contributing sponsors: Voler, Aussie Racing Apparel, Tioga, AXO Cycling, Continental Tires, Crank Brothers, THE, Serfas, The Indian Store, Champion Nutrition/REVENGE, Minute Maid, Chris King, Active.com, and BIKE magazine. Our Major Sponsoring Clubs: the San Diego Mountain Bike Association and fellow Warrior's Society member Andy Darragh, the Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers and fellow Warrior's Society member Chuck Anderson, and the SHARE Mountain Bike Club and fellow Warrior's Society member Robin Lemonds. The staff at O'Neill Park where the event was held. Art Tuttle for behaving himself in Blackstar. Karl “Breaks His Horse” Greenblatt for helping with the trucks.
And
last but not least my wife Geriann and son Shane, for putting up with the Race
Director who loves them both dearly. Thanks again and see you at the Toad Festival in October. 2002 Counting Coup Event Finishing Times 40 Miles With 8,000 Feet Of Total Elevation Gain
