Warrior's Racing Competes at Rim Nordic on Father's Day

Molly podium

We had three Warrior's Racing Team members competing at the Father's Day Rim Nordic Races at Big Bear. Senior Team members Drew Lazenby had a great finish in the Expert XC Singlespeed class with a 2nd place finish and Molly Hartsough had a first place finish in the Women's Sport XC race competing on her singlespeed.

12 year old Warrior's Racing Junior Team member Lacey Maxwell was once again the only girl there in her age group; she got another 1st place. Lacey say's her race went well and she liked the course. She walked a few of the climbs and she did well on the single track that had the exposure on the left side. Drew podium She was ahead of the boy in the Beg 14 and Under Class until her chain fell off going down one of the rocky sections; and he passed her while she was putting it back on.

Congratulations Lacey, Molly and Drew!!

In the following story Warrior's Society member Darin "Crash Dad" Maxwell celebrates Father's day with his family racing at the Rim Nordic event:

After getting off work, and sleeping for 3 hours, I rousted everyone out of bed at 5 AM for the drive up to Running Springs. Sunday was the first of the Rim Nordic race series for this year. The weather was a beautiful day in the mid 70's. Lacey was entered in the Beginner Girls 14 and Lacey on the course under age group, and after riding the course with her last Sunday, I entered in the Beginner Clydesdale class. Also, racing for the first time were my two youngest kids, Jake (11), and Kaylee (9). They got to enter in the free Kid's Fun Race. My wife Shelly also joined us for her first race (just as a GREAT spectating Mom)!

I started my race just before Lacey did hers, so I didn't get a chance to see her ride until the finish strait. Once again, she was the only girl there in her age group, so she got another 1st place.

Lacey podium Lacey say's her race went well, and she liked the course. She walked a few of the climbs, (as did I, man there were some short steep ones), and she did well on the singletrack that had the exposure on the left side. She was ahead of the boy in the Beg 14 & Under class until her chain fell off going down one of the rocky sections, and he passed her while she was putting it back on. I went strait to The Path this morning and put on one of AJ's Frame Savers. Tani, and Mondo both are running one and had good things to say about it. That's the end of that problem! (I hope)

Steve and Darin My race went well also. I raced against a local named Steve, who has been racing there the last couple of years. Imagine Bill Haus, except take off an inch or two in height, and add about 30 pounds of MUSCLE! This guy was built like a tank! He passed me like I was sitting still at the beginning of the first climb. I stood up a pedaled past him just after that (me passing on a CLIMB?) and never looked back. He's a really nice guy, and lives in the area up there, so he's probably going to squash me like a bug at the next race. Now the kid's race.

Kids race There were quite a few entered, with ages ranging from 11 to 6, maybe even younger. It was really cool seeing them all line up to race. Off they went, with Kaylee somehow getting the lead and holding on to it until they stopped her to let the Pro's pass. By that time, the rest had caught her, and off they went again. This time it was another boy and Jake to get out front down the finishing strait. PEDAL JAKE, PEDAL KAYLEE! Jake caught the other boy just at the finish for first, with Kaylee taking third.

All of the kids that participated received medals, T-shirts, and a grab bag full of goodies. What a GREAT Father's Day it was!
