1. THE LAST TWO EVENTS OF OUR ORANGE COUNTY MOUNTAIN BIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

Our last two events in the Orange County Mountain Bike Championship are coming up soon. On Saturday, October 21st is the Switchback Cyclery
6-Hours of Orange County and on Saturday November 18th we have the
Sho-Air/Rock and Road Fall Mountain Bike Classic XC race.

In the solo class Manual Prado of Team Sho-Air (in the 17 to 30 Class) is leading the Warrior’s Society / Sho-Air Male Orange County Championship Series. Manual has total points of 185 after a 1st place win in our last event, the 24-Hours of Orange County, with 20 laps (112 miles and 25,060 total feet of elevation gain). With two more races in the series left it will be exciting to see if he continues to lead the series.

Bernice Pierson leads the female championship with 195 points and was the top female solo rider (31 to 45) with 16 laps (89.60 miles and 20,048 of total elevation gain) at our last event, the 24-Hours of Orange County.

In second place in the female Warrior’s Society / Sho-Air Championship Series) is Warrior’s Society club/race team member Mary Huth who completed 14 laps (78.40 miles and 78.40 miles) at the 24-Hours of Orange County. Mary trails Bernice in the Championship Series by 10 points.

To see the complete standings go to the championship series web page at:

http://www.warriorssociety.org/events/xc_championship_info.html

The series final will be the Sho-Air/Rock N Road Fall Mountain Bike XC
Classic where we will crown the champions and raffle off $5,000 worth of
Felt Bikes. For each event in the series you’ve entered you will receive a raffle ticket towards the prizes from Felt; the more events you participate in the greater your chances of winning.

Sho-Air and Rock N Road will also be providing a free copy of the “2004
Mountain Bike Pow Wow” DVD for all those participating in the
Sho-Air/Rock N Road Fall Mountain Bike XC Classic. The DVD documents the
2004 Vision Quest and Counting Coup and includes a 3D tour of the courses.

2. THE SWITCHBACK CYCLERY 6-HOURS OF ORANGE COUNTY

There are solo (age group classes and novice, intermediate and expert skill level), two man and 3 man classes (no skill level or age group breakup). The course is 5.6 miles long with 1,253 feet of total elevation gain per lap.

The entry fee is $45.00 each, which includes t-shirts, raffle prizes, lunch of salad, rolls, pasta, beer, soda and ice cream sundaes or root beer floats.

Core Chiropractic will again be doing massage at the event. Several of their patients are participating in the race and will want as much massage as possible, so please find us and get your spot. The DMS massage affectively moves lactic acid and keeps muscles fresh during long races. If you have any questions, check out their website:

4. PRACTICE DAYS SCHEDULED FOR THE 6-HOUR AND FALL CLASSIC XC EVENTS

Saturday, October 14th and Saturday, November 11th have been scheduled as practice days for the Switchback 6-Hours of Orange County and the Sho-Air/Rock N Road Fall XC Classic.

Practice will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. There will be a $5.00 per car charge to enter the Flying B.

5. THE 2007 MOUNTAIN BIKE POW WOW REGISTRATION IS OPEN

The date of the Mountain Bike Pow Wow is Saturday, March 3rd. We have a couple of changes to the 2007 Mountain Bike Pow Wow. Due to the fact that only 1/3 of the field used the shuttle from O’Neill Park to the start at Black Star we will no longer provide a shuttle to the start in the morning.

Participants will have to arrange their own transportation to the start. We are lowering the price of the Pow Wow events by $10 (Vision Quest from $115 to $105 And Counting Coup from $75 to $65) since we will save $2,200 by not renting 5 buses and 6 trucks.

We plan on getting permission from O’Neill Park to allow the parking of a shuttle vehicle overnight on Friday for those who plan to carpool to the start and want to have a vehicle to drive back after the event ends at O’Neill, our end of the race staging area.

From O’Neill Park we will have one bus and one truck to shuttle people back to the start at Black Star starting at 2 p.m. with the last shuttle at 5 p.m.

We will have ONE start time of 5:30 a.m. There will be no early start at 5:00 a.m. as has been done in past Pow Wows.

As previously mentioned, because we will not be providing shuttles to the start the 2007 entry fee has been lowered by $10; $65.00 for the Counting Coup and $105.00 for the Vision Quest.

The entry fee includes breakfast goods at the start, lunch, t-shirts, raffle prizes, a coup feather for finishers of the Counting Coup and a beaded Coup Feather, as well as helmet and car coup feather stickers for finishers of the Vision Quest.

Participation is limited to 200 for the Vision Quest and 100 for the Counting Coup – and the events always sell out. To insure a spot in either event register ASAP.
